Common Name: Fortune Tree, Money Tree, Malabar Chestnut, French Peanut, Guiana Chestnut, Provision Tree, Saba Nut, Monguba, Pumpo, Jelinjoche

Scientific Name: Pachira aquatica (possibly the closely related Pachira glabra)

Pachira aquatica is a tropical wetland tree in the mallow family Malvaceae, native to Central and South America, where it grows in swamps.  In addition to being used in terrariums, it can also make for an excellent bonsai or house plant, with a large, sturdy trunk that tapers off into a wide canopy of elongated, lush leaves.

These particular specimens feature multiple trunks in the same pot, grown and braided together.

-Care Recommendations By The Dude-

Best for These Animals: Small to medium-sized reptiles and amphibians, including arboreal (tree-dwelling) species.

Bio Dude Substrates: TerraFlora, TerraFauna, TerraFirma

Soil Depth: Moderate to deep

Lighting: Bright, indirect light

Humidity & Misting: 40%-100%, can tolerate 20%-40%, but higher humidity is suggested for optimal growth.

Mature Plant Size & Root System: Can grow up to 6-8 feet indoors, with a spread of 2-3 feet, and can grow to a much larger size outdoors in its native habitat.  The root system can also become extensive, but is generally okay when contained in an enclosure. Pruning is suggested to keep the plant manageable in an enclosure.

Temperature Tolerance & Placement in the Terrarium: Too high temperatures or low humidity may cause leaves to brown.  Best used as a back/wall planting; corner placement recommended.

Edible & Side Effects if Ingested: While not always classified as highly toxic, the money tree can cause mild gastrointestinal upset in some reptiles if consumed, however, reptiles and amphibians do not typically ingest them.

Pot Size & Packaging: A single 4" potted fortune tree w/ stump plant is shipped in the pot, wrapped in paper.

Too expensive, tastes fine
I was worried based on reviews, but I think these taste fine! I don't eat a lot of candy anyway, but sometimes I just need 1-2 pieces to satisfy a sweet/sour craving. These are great since I'm on the Keto diet. They aren't overly sour for sure, but they still have some sourness to them. There's a bit of an aftertaste since they are made with sugar substitutes, but nothing terrible. My only complaint is the price. Way too expensive for the amount you get.

Not bad
The cherry tastes too much like cherry cough syrup. The grape fruit and apple aren't bad. For a no sugar candy for diabetics when you're having a craving, not bad.

I Wouldn’t Call Them Sour
Did I enjoy this candy? Absolutely. Did it meet my expectations? No. I have anxiety. I’ve heard about the technique of using a sour candy to distract from an anxiety attack. Well, I also have insulin resistance so I have been looking for a sugar-free sour candy which it turns out is a tall order. Unfortunately, I was disappointed when I tasted these because they really don’t taste sour. While I enjoy the flavors (especially grapefruit) they aren’t sour. A big bummer. I do think the nutrition for this candy is awesome, though. They have a good amount of fiber and are made with xylitol which is great for oral health. Overall, I think they are pricey and not necessarily worth the cost considering they are not anything special outside of the nutritional values. Bummer!
